Exams are finally
finished!
Well, I survived my last two exams on Monday (Scotland Since
1850: Empire to Devolution) and Tuesday (Britain
and Ireland in
the Twentieth Century). I started to slip into an ‘I don’t care’ mode, so it’s
probably best that I’m done with them. One interesting thing to relate is that
for my Scotland
exam, I decided that I really didn’t want to study for it, so instead I simply
chose three questions from past exams and only studied enough to answer those
questions, and if they didn’t show up then oh well. When I was in the exam room
and turned over the paper, I nearly had a heart attack when I realized that all
three of those exact same questions were on there! Needless to say, I think I
rocked my Scotland
exam! Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case for my Britain
and Ireland
exam. I finally lost any motivation that I ever had, and by the time the exam rolled
around at noon on Tuesday, I had
studied for a maximum of 1 ½ hours…not too great of a decision on my part. When
I glanced at the question sheet in the exam room, there’s only one word that
went through my mind, and as it’s not nice, I’ll refrain from displaying it
here. Consequently, what followed were two of the longest hours of my life. In
the end, I think I ended up padding my questions sufficiently enough that I
think I squeaked by. I’ll just have to wait and see, won’t I.
Well, after the horrors of my first four British exams ever,
I decided that I needed to spend copious amounts of time down the pub, which is
just what I did. Kirstin and I headed to the pub at around 8pm on Tuesday and I didn’t get home until after closing.
Mmm, alcohol. I paid the price on Wednesday, however, and hardly moved
throughout the day. I did have to make myself do laundry and pack sometime
after 5pm though, because Kirstin and
I were moving into our flat on Thursday. What a chore that turned out to be! I
didn’t think I had that much stuff, having just arrived a few months prior, but
boy did I turn out to be wrong. I filled my two suitcases and numerous bags.
At noon on
Thursday (today) I took the bus into the city with a bag or two to collect our
keys from the landlady (as Kirstin was working, I was the sole representative).
I took numerous pictures, which I have listed below. After surveying the flat
(it had been a month or so since I had last looked at it when we signed the
lease) I headed back to the bus stop to go back to Hillhead and grab another
load of my stuff. After stowing this new load in the flat, I again returned to
Hillhead to collect the last of my possessions and to turn in my room key to
the central building. I returned to the flat for the third time disheveled, hot
and sweaty-not a pretty picture. Eventually, Kirstin arrived in her friend’s
car (this is how she moved her stuff…in the end she managed to fill two
different cars with all of her junk!) and I went down to collect my last piece
of luggage (I had packed my biggest suitcase so full that there was so way that
I could have lifted it onto the bus) and pull it up two flights of steps. I was
so weary by midday that all I wanted
to do was pass out on the couch, but I managed enough motivation to unpack
everything, make my bed and generally make my room livable.
Kirstin went off to a birthday party of one of her mates,
but came back early and surprised me with Chinese takeout, which we promptly
devoured. We watched a DVD and generally had
a good first night as roommates. Unfortunately, I had to excuse myself and go
pack at midnight. That’s right, after
all the unpacking I had just done, I now had to open up my luggage and insert a
bunch of stuff back into it…talk about irony! The reason for this is because I
had changed my flight date to Friday, June 2. There are a few reasons whey I
did this, but I don’t really feel like going into them at the moment, so
suffice it to say that I would now be arriving in Minneapolis on Friday. As my
taxi will be arriving at 7:15am
tomorrow morning, I must bid adieu and go to bed.
