Lake Lanier
West Bank
2004
Lake Lanier is one of the places that I can go when I need to get away from the difficulties and challenges that life throws at me.  It's a place where I can just sit on the rocks at West Bank and ponder where my life is, where I want to go from here, and how to get there.  I've been coming to this place since 1998.  This is one of the most special places to me.  It's a beautiful place, although you usually won't find me here in the summer when everyone is enjoying the lake.  It's usually during the fall and winter months that you see me here - just because I get more "alone" time that way.  A great place.
This photograph was taken in 2000.  The water was particularly low during this period.  You can see a little 'island' off in the distance.  Though I have only set foot on the island twice in my life, once on a raft, once by boat, I have a great time between the two locations.  It's a great first date idea.  I've been here with a lot of friends over the years - from 'after work' swims during my high school years to 'chillin' with Matt Hicks and the boys during the summers... and of course there's times when I just go by myself.  I feel especially close to God here.  I can't really explain why, but I do.  Whenever I leave this place, I always feel more energized and positive about what all is going on around me.  I'm sure that everyone needs a quiet place that they can go and think... for some its a park, for others a library, but for me, it's the lake.
