Crew evaluation

Stacey Hartley (Producer)

Stacey gave a very assured producing performance through all stages of the production. Although not directly involved with the bulk of pre-production, this was mainly because I wasn’t required. This means I am not best placed to fully assess her contribution, but the best indicator of the quality of pre-production is an easy ride through the production itself.

Under Stacey’s guide everything seemed organised, professional and controlled. There was ample notice of shooting and all the require paperwork was completed.

She also extended into assistant director. The director will be based placed to assess her effectiveness in this extra role. A very important one considering Paul was in a great deal of the shots, so Stacey had to be his eyes.

Paul Ashdown (Director)

The direction of the final piece was well planned and thought through. There is only the composition of one brief shot that doesn’t work (FRANK ‘I found it in the garden’) and this is born more out of the hectic rush for filming the scenes that day.

Paul found it hard to act and direct again. Considering his duel role and input into pre-production, he did a startling job.

Adam Hewit

Adam was omnipresent throughout the entire production. He wandered into pre-production roles with Paul and Stacey, acted on every shoot, helped Michelle on occasions with the DV cam and was responsible for the lighting, an extra role he took up successfully, again apart from one lone shot rushed through on a harsh days filming. Then there is the matter of the edits, which can’t be criticised at all. The stunt sequences are cut together skilfully, Adam was verging on perfection in almost everything he confronted. It’s impossible to ask for more.

Michelle Turnbull

Michelle had it easy. The nature of her role dictates she was only required for the days on set, while everyone else had to put much more work into the pre and post production. She was in America before we shooting, but probably would have been almost as detached from the process had she been here, just mildly more informed (although Stacey kept in touch). This is not to criticise her contribution, but just to place it slightly adrift from the rest of the crew.

Her camerawork was always good with professional attitude and practice continued at all times. There was a slight problem achieving the depth of focus in one of the bedroom scenes (Frank looking at his hands) but this is really the only time where I remember camera issues holding us up. It turned out she wasn’t far enough back to achieve the intended effect, but 5 other people couldn’t work this out either!

Fraser Campbell

I think the sound on the final piece works adequately. I have been criticised for taking a bit too long and perhaps I did approach the editing stages with a slightly perfectionist attitude as I didn’t want to compromise anything. Unfortunately Avid decided to undo a lot of my hard work, so we’ll never know exactly what it was like!

Note: this was done in one big rush on deadline day so it isn't very good!
