El Dorado Beef-Cheese Casserole

1 lb ground beef

1 Tbsp instant minced onion

1/2 tsp garlic salt

2 cans (8 oz each) tomato sauce

1 cup sour cream

1 cup cottage cheese

1 small can Ortega chiles, chopped

1 pkg tortilla chips, crushed

2 cups grated colby cheese

Saute beef, drain off excess fat.  Add onion,garlic salt, and tomato sauce to beef.  In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, cottage cheese, and chiles.  Place half of crushed chips in bottom of well-buttered 2-1/2 quart casserole dish.  Add half of the meat mixture.   Cover with half of sour cream mixture.  Sprinkle with half of grated cheese.   Repeat layers.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

NOTE:  Substitute minced cooked roast beef, chicken or turkey for the ground beef.
