Point of View: the narrator who tells the story
1st person:  uses the "I" pronoun

all characters' thoughts and actions. The Eye in the Sky!
3rd person limited: uses "he/she" pronoun but only tells the story of one person- not all. Like "Jiminy Cricket" on one character's shoulers. He can only tell us what is going on around that one character.

Flashback: when the storyteller talks about events in the past

Foreshadowing: when the author hints at things to come

Figurative language: when an author says one thing and means it in another. (Let the cat out of the bag= tell a secret)

Literal language: when the author means exactly what he or she writes. (Let the cat out of the bag= to undo a sack and let a really mad, furry thing out of it)
