1906 Steamer Trunk Coffee Table Project |
||||||||||||||||||
Well, its taken a while but we're almost done! The whole thing was taken apart and sanded before being stained (wood) or painted (metal) and put back to together. While I was trying to sand the wood without making it fall apart Anthony rebuilt the bottom so it could actually hold things (it was pretty smashed up as you can see). It's close enough to done that we can use it now, but don't think that means we've finished working on it. Since these "after" pictures were taken the side leather handles have been replaced using the same hardware and an old leather belt for the straps. I still have to finish with the inside lining. I'm replacing the plaid (it was in awful shape) with a blue and white striped denim. Also, Anthony is trying to find a way to reinforce the back hinges from the inside so I can keep the old hinges on for looks without having to worry about the lid falling off. Have you ever noticed that so-called little projects always seem to take the most work? |
