Laboratory Activity # 10 Quarter 1 Packet 2
Name:  ___________________________

"Density Of Styrene"

Problem: What is the density of the substance styrene ?

Procedure:

1)Get a 250mL graduated cylinder and fill with water to the 100mL mark.

2)Drop a styrene stopper into the cylinder.

3)Measure the amount of displaced water.

4)This is the volume of the stopper in mL.

5)Measure the mass of the stopper.

6)Calculate the density of the styrene stopper.

7)Determine percent error.

Materials:

250ml graduated cylinder, 100ml of water, styrene stopper

Formulas:

D=M/V     , 1ml=1cm3     % error=(Literature Value -Experimental Value)/Literature Value  x 100

Conclusion:
1.  What was your experimental value?
2.  If the literature value was 1.22g/cm3, whats the percent error?
