REVIEW
Freddy Vs Jason
"It's what I've been waiting for!!!!"
This movie is the first movie I started tracking way back when I first got on the internet way back in 1999. There have been up and downs, waiting for filming to start, Jason X started filming, it got postponed for a year, did ok a box office, then last September finally started. I tracked it saw pictures from the set and waited. Originally scheduled for June 13th. (A symbolic date in Friday the 13th movies). It was postponed till August 15 on a crowded weekend. Through January to May, I awaited the trailer and poster. Attached to the Matrix Reloaded, but not on the reel I saw. Luckily I downloaded it the night before.

The opening is very good. Freddy narrates and shows how he became burned. For the fist time it shows Robert Englund without his makeup and the night he was killed. He was about to kill a 9 year old girl when the parents of Elm Street throw burning stuff into his house. He then explains that it has been four years since Freddy’s last murder. The kids on Elm Street have forgotten him. The ones who do are locked in a mental institution. No one utters Freddy’s name. The parents, once again are hiding Freddy’s existence. Blacked out obituaries of Freddy’s victims and all Freddy’s records or birth, death, and others have been destroyed. When Freddy’s name is said, his tale heard, or people remembering him, he gains power. He has no power. He can’t get in their dreams. Until, he resurrects Jason who is currently in hell (Though seems like heaven for him, back a Crystal Lake hacking up skinny dipping teens).  His mother appears and she tells him to go to Elm Street and kill. Little does he know it is Freddy. A lot of character development is thrown at you in the next scene. The teens are still the same with their alcohol, smoking, and “relations”. All in abundance. Freddy then shows up, unseen. When the 5 remaining run out of the house, in the rain, a police car happens to be randomly driving by. They are all screaming, one wearing a towel. The police man calmly rolls his window down and asks, “Do you need assistance?”.  The teens are questioned by the police. The signs point to Freddy but the police won’t say his name because they know if they make a big deal, Freddy will get more powerful.  Let’s fast forward a bit. Freddy soon gets the enough power to kill again, but Jason is still killing his victims and Freddy’s pissed. They have their first fight. They don’t box or stuff like that. They hack each other up. Throwing each other around. Freddy is quite powerful. They are in the dream world in this fight. This fight is really exciting and great to watch. And for reference, Freddy is the bad guy in the movie. Jason is bad, but he is not THE main antagonist. Freddy was behind everything so if you don't understand what I'm saying see it and you'll understand how Freddy is the antagonist of the movie.

There are many sub sub characters. They have a Jay and Silent Bob type duo. The Silent Bob one is a lot like Horatio Sanz though. The appear in the cornfield rave scene which is some fun but could have been more fun.  When Jason comes be hind the Silent Bob guy, he’s all,  “Yo what’s up?!” and then offers him beer and some marijuana. Jason chases him back to the rave and then hacks everyone up. Two of the people who were put in the mental hospital escape and meet up with the main characters because they knew them…4 years ago. The Silent Bob meets up with Freddy’s centipede thing who gives him a bong and he’s all, “Cool, thanks man,”

Eventually they end up at Camp Crystal Lake where the final showdown, in the real world, takes place.   A great action piece. They literally hack each other up. They find some toys to play with, rebar, helium (maybe propane) tanks, and many others. This one on one fight is possibly one of the best of all time and lots of fun. The end I will not tell you who wins unless you ask for it. But I will tell you its not some stupid ending where they both die, one survives and is killed by the teens, or they both win. There is a winner of this battle, but of the war? We’ll have to see.

This movie is ridiculously gory! Every time someone is hacked in the chest with Jason’s machete, blood sprays out like a hose! When Freddy hacks Jason with his fingers, blood sprays. If you thought in Sleepy Hollow when the heads got chopped off that was disgusting, you haven’t seen ANYTHING yet. This makes Gangs of New York looks mild! I don’t think there was this much blood in all the Fridays combined. Gladiator is not even close to this. Even the end credits are bloody. This is quite possibly the goriest R rated movie ever.  They were right in the set reports where they said the director, Ronny Yu, would yell "More Blood!". 300 gallons I hear it was. You heard the expression, buckets of blood. Well this is a lot of buckets. (over 70 5-gallon buckets) Remember in one of the Adams Family movies during the play the boy and girl “cut each others arms off”? Think that.  Nudity is also abundant in here. More than the others ever showed. Also, pre-marital relations are also shown pretty strong here. The language is pretty strong f-word here and there. Drug use is abundant with the Jay and Silent Bob people.

The acting is awful with some stupid dialogue. “Freddy’s afraid of fire, Jason’s afraid of water. How can we use this?”. Maybe making fun of the 80’s movies, I’m not sure. Mr. A was with me in and constant said, “Shut up Destiny’s Child.” When Kelly Rowland said her stupid lines. People in the theater were people of all ages! 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and even an 80+ year old woman in a wheel chair! Some how this movie passed the MPAA without any cuts. They must have seen the ridiculous blood as a joke. I thought Gangs of New York pushed the limits, but here this is. This is a lot of fun, with the fights I’ve been waiting for, some scares. This is what I’ve been waiting for! Judging by Fridays box office take in. I’d say the Freddy prequel has a strong chance of being green lit soon.
