So you think you want to know what your grade will be . . . |
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, finding out what your entire course grade will be is not that difficult, if you have 3 key pieces of information: This tool is also helpful if you need to calculate exactly what grade you need to strive for to achieve your ultimate goals for the course. |
1) 1st 9 weeks letter grade 2) 2nd 9 weeks letter grade 3) Final exam letter grade |
First of all, if you have Microsoft Excel, your calculations just got easier! Simply click on the little pink calculator to the left to open up a spreadsheet that will basically do it all for you! You can even get your semester GPA tallied! |
If your computer is not equipped with that convenient program, you're going to have calculate it by hand. *Sigh!* |
You will need this chart to complete your calculations |
Step 1: Locate your letter grade for the 1st 9 weeks on the chart to the left and its point value. Example: B+ = 3.38 |
Write this down! |
Step 2: Multiply this value by 3. Example: 3.38 x 3 = 10.14 |
Step 3: Locate your letter grade for the 2nd 9 weeks on the chart and write down its point value. Example: C- = 1.68 |
Step 4: Multiply the value from Step 3 by 3 and add it do the value from Step 2. Example: 1.68 x 3 = 5.04 + 10.14 = 15.18 |
Step 5: Locate your letter grade for the final exam on the chart and write down its point value. Example: C = 2.00 |
Step 6: Multiply the value from Step 5 by 2 and add it do the value from Step 4. Example: 2.00 x 2 = 4.00 + 15.18 = 19.18 |
Step 7: Divide the value from Step 6 by 8. This is the point value of your course grade. Match the point value to the scores in the Range column to determine what your overall letter grade will be. Example: 19.18 / 8 = 2.3975 = C+ |
