On the Write Track:
We will be practicing our handwriting skills by learning a letter a day.  I am already impressed with the handwriting the children have already shown in class.  I hope they keep up the great work!  We will be learning about capitalization, punctuation marks, the pronoun "I", and simple sentences this month.  We are also beginning to write sentences.  When your child begins to write, I encourage you to help your child sound out words but not to correct their spelling all the time. It is okay for children to phonetically spell words using inventive spelling. If your child is set on spelling a word correctly, show them how to use a dictionary to find their word.  I am not looking for words to be perfect. The children should be spelling words that we have had in the past from our spelling tests. Besides that, as long as we are able to read what the child was saying, they are progressing in the right direction. However, I do want it to be in the child's best handwriting. This makes it easier on all of us in helping us to read what they wrote.  Some ideas to help your child with writing at home:
1.  Let your child help you write the grocery list
2.  Let your child write a letter to you
3   Have your child make a list of words they can spell
4.  Let them write what they did in school

God is Our Good Father!
This month, we will be discussing how Jesus is our friend, how God is good, and how God is our Father.  Our goal for this month and next month will be that the children will more deeply realize the great love God has for them and they will desire to pray to God.

Prayers and Intentions:
If you or your family have any prayer request for special intentions, please let me know so that I can put it in our homework and/or newsletter.  This month, let us pray for our first graders that they may be successful this school year.
