Instrumental selection

I'll shake off all thoughts of playing maraca's.
To me bongo's aren't such a hit.
I'll stick to the thoughts I tapped into before;
Clave, for me, are not it.

The piccolo's praises I'll never sing,
despite that it seems so cute.
Which doesn't much matter, for it fails to flatter,
'coz it's far too much like a flute.

To play on a guiro I'd barely scrape by.
A bass player needs lots of pluck.
It seems violinist's are all highly strung,
and harmonica players all suck.

I'll let thoughts of trombone's slide on by,
and I'm not one to blow my own trumpet.
I won't bang on about playing the drums,
or grabbing a gong just to thump it.

To 'tickle the ivories' (play the piano)
is not quite what tickles my fancy.
My vocal skill's nothing to sing about yet.
When I move and shake, it's not dancey.

I thought of conducting but it doesn't suit.
I don't want a saxophone-bill.
And just the thought of all horns strikes me mute;
to play low brass, life's all uphill.

To learn the French horn would be quite a tough blow,
and guitar lessons just make me fret.
I'll blow off that ill-wind that no-one blows good,
the black 'liquorice stick' - clarinet.

Something metallic, a simple percussion
and musical carrot to dangle:
Instrumental to end this discussion;
Just give me another try-angle!
