Library card loser

I just can't find my library card; I've looked and looked and looked.
I need it now to borrow books, 'coz reading's got me hooked.
I must have left it somewhere close. Inside my library book?
You sneaky card! Where can you be? I'll have another look.
The panic's starting to set in, 'coz Crikey! Holy Moses!
I've only got twelve minutes till our local library closes.
The good news is that I live close. It's just two minutes walk.
But 'til I find my library card there's little time for talk.
As soon as I can find it I will have to move quite quick.
Perhaps if I retrace my steps ... yes, that should do the trick ...
Oh, Phew! At last I've found it. Time for a quick short-cut.
I jump the fence, then run the lane ... but fancy that! It's shut!
I should still have three minutes, to feed my reading cravings.
And then it swifty hits me: We've finished daylight savings!

I guess that now I'll have to come back tomorrow, then ...
But wait a sec, I can't ... because tomorrow's the weekend.
It's shut both days on weekends, ... so I'll come back on Monday.
But hang on a tick, remember, ... Monday is Anzac Day!
It shuts for public holidays, like this one, you can bet.
And look they've gone and hung a "We're shut" sign; Lest we forget.
OK, I'll come back Tuesda...Hold your horses at the ranch!
Most libraries open on Tuesdays; except this local branch.
Righto, I'll come back Wednesday. Wednesday can't come too soon ...
...oh, no! I can't believe it. ... That's practise afternoon!
Alright then, so it's Thursda ...Wait, Thursday arvo's out.
Shuts early on a Thursday. Some funding cut no doubt.
I'll have to wait for one whole week, but then there'll be no stopping
me from borrowing books agai ...Friday evening shopping!
Mum picks us up straight after school; in fact a wee bit early.
We have to drive straight into town to beat the hurly-burly
of the peak hour Friday traffic. So mum drives like some crazed nut.
We have to rush to get to town before the shops have shut.
There won't be time for libraries then, so next week might be good ...
Darn it! ... School holidays! ... I'd skip them if I could.
In total that's ...
three weeks I'll be without fresh books to read!
What shall I do to satisfy my Literary need?
I guess I'll have to ... go home to ... read
my own books again.
Or go next door to borrow some; but they think I'm a pain,
'coz every time I go in there I sit and read till dark.
Should I head to the playground, or perhaps play in the park?
I'm really no great sportsman. It's true, I must confess.
So maybe something more indoors? Perhaps I'll take up chess!
But please Lord, now I'm begging ... that you will promise me;
Don't make me sit all evening and just watch that dumb TV!
I've learnt this little lesson; To make your life less hard,
Take
good care of the library books, ...
and
great care of your card!
