You'll be a Rugby man, my son.

When Webb-Ellis Willy was out being silly,
he could not have known what he'd done.
The ensuing attraction of one simple action;
To pick up the ball and to run!

Now that's all in the past, like the lad time has passed,
to new sportsmen who still have a ball.
Whether big, whether fast, whether slim build or vast,
they line up to respond to the call.

At some time whilst we trundle, we'll each drop our bundle;
It's how we respond that is telling.
If you keep a calm head, you should never see red,
so try calling the play, without yelling.

Whether manning a ruck or just running amuck,
There'll be times when you must take a punt.
And you won't always know, 'till the ref's final blow,
if you finished behind or in front.

Now remember, my lad, these wise words from your dad,
The worlds one big ball, so have fun with it.
And should life knock you down, get back up, lose your frown ...
and son ...
pick up the ball and just run with it!
