An important focus for us this year in both General and Judaic Studies is how we speak to one another.  In other words, it's not just WHAT we say, but HOW we say it that counts!  From our Teaching Tolerance materials, we read the story, "The Prince and the Rhinoceros, an Indian Tale of Speaking Kindly", exploring friendship and kindness, apology and forgiveness.  In Chumash, we have learned that all people are created in God's image and thus deserving of respect and kindness.  Our class completed the sentence "God cares how we speak to each other because..." in the following ways.

you get hurt when someone says something mean to you, not hurt like a bloody nose but your feelings get hurt.  Everyone has a piece of God in him.

if we talk like if I said to ___  "get out of my way" in a bad tone, her feelings would be hurt.  If I did that to everybody, their feelings would be hurt.

it isn't nice.  It's kind of mean.  God wants everyone to be happy.  God wants the world to be sweet and nobody to fight.

He knows it will hurt other people's feelings.  Then, other people will not talk nice and it will hurt your feelings, too.

God created the world and is the ruler and wants us to try and get along because in Noah's ark and the Tower of Babel, there were not good people.

if people start saying bad things, everyone would not be friendly, and everyone would fight.  It would be chaos.  Everyday we have a chance to make things better, and just by one day, the whole entire world can change, and we can make the world a better place.

we can easily hurt people's feelings.

if you say something nice to someone in a mean voice, you don't mean what you say and it may hurt their feelings.

God knows we can't be perfect so He wants us to be as close as we can.

if He didn't care then nobody will care,and every second people's feelings will be hurt.  People will do a lot of physical contact, and a lot of people will die.  The whole world will be a mess.

it will be respectful and nice.  You will be nice to other people.  It is the right thing to do because you have to speak nicely to each other.

He made us to be kind, and it hurts Him to see us doing mean stuff.

it is the right thing to do.  It is respectful.  You have to do what you think is right.

Your tone matters, but it matters more what we say.

He wants us to be good people, not bad people.  He made a beautiful world for us and wants us to enjoy it.

if you don't speak in a nice tone of voice, it makes people feel bad or not want to be friends with you.

because it feels good to Him.
