My first job was at the
Cotton Shop on Roosevelt Road; working for a friend of the family. I helped to
stock and arrange clothes on the rack by size and style. I also helped with the
financial part of the business by counting and balancing the register.
Along the way; after
graduating from Harrison High School; I devoted my time and energy to being a
working mother at Marshall Field on State Street as an Operator in the Bridal
Registry until management discovered I had exceptional mathematical skills and
transferred me to Accounting in the capacity of an Accounts Payable Clerk.
Along the way, major surgery,
a failed marriage and a few unhappy relationships caused several job changes. I
worked in Chicago at General Electric as a file clerk, I trained and work at
Cook County Hospital in Chicago as a Ward Secretary, at St. Mary of Nazareth as
a Medical Clerk and I even sold Avon cosmetics on a part-time basis to
supplement my income to provide for my child.
Moving to California was the
beginning of employment disasters that should never happen to anyone while
working in the U S A.
