Posters for Islam Awareness Week Went up and then Down

ur weeks of preparing are finally coming to an end. We got the final approval for the print requests of our flyers and the two posters were made courtesy of Student Government Association and they immediately went up. Unfortunately, because of one poster being placed on the bare brick surface, M.S.A. was asked to take down the poster as to not damage the bricks. Before we could get to the location of the poster, Student Life had already removed it. That didn’t stop us though from beginning our advertisement of Islam Awareness Week.

We are also preparing the delivery of the Qu’rans and other materials for Islam Awareness Week. It is confirmed Ramadan will start on Wednesday and we will hold Iftar that evening then of course Mahgrib prayer immediately after. The brothers left in charge the Iftar materials started loading up the office with boxes of plates and eating utensils.

What Happened???

Wednesday came with high spirits being the first day of Ramadan. Excitement fill the M.S.A. office as the day started to progress. All things were in place as more and more Brothers and Sisters started coming out of the woodworks. What better way to prepare your Ramadan than by having our weekly class with Brother Mohammad Yassen. One thing missing…….THE BROTHES AND SISTERS! We were successful in having NOT ONE person show up for the class. This did not only bring a blow to the organizer (who by the way was the only one to show up) but obviously Brother Yassen was looking forward to a large group being the first day of Ramadan of all the days.

Please brothers and sisters, lets show Brother Yassen, who comes here on his own time to try to teach us about our religion, that we appreciates his time devoted to us. Please do your best to make it to the remaining classes. Don’t do this for anyone else but yourself.

Ramadan at LaGuardia

M158 was the setting for Iftar (Breaking of the fast)on Wednesday for the Brothers and Sisters of LaGuardia. Our first day resulted in 40 to 50 brothers showing up and 15-20 sisters. How hard can it be to bring food to a room and eat? Extremely! And because of this M.S.A would like to thank all the brothers and sisters who did participate with the preparing of Iftar. A lot of work goes into this and even more so went into it on Thursday when even more brothers and sisters showed up for Iftar. Alhamdullilah, we had enough donation for today but we ask that everyone could contribute something and may Allah reward you.

Bits and Pieces

We were approved for an additional $500.00 from Student Government. Thanks Allah for everything! This will InShallah help out M.S.A. with some of the Islam Awareness Week expenses.

New flyers and schedules went out for Brother Mohammad Yaseen with the proper corrections made to it so there will be no excuse for no one showing up for the next one.

M.S.A. is in the process of organizing a new Advertisement Committee. We have a couple positions to fill for this committee and we would like your help for this. Please see any of the executive members so we can get you active in the M.S.A. Cant wait to hear from you…….
