In the Spring of 2003, Jamie took a field trip with her art class from Riverdale High School . The objective of that outing was to sketch and photograph memorial  art in some of New Orleans' most famous cemetaries.  Jamie  took this photograph while they were at Metairie Cemetary. The film remained undeveloped until after she had left us and I was quite moved by  this photo when I had it processed.  In 2004 Deanna and I happened to stop by College Inn, a restaurant on Carrollton Avenue, looked up and saw almost the exact same photo enlarged on the wall.  It was captioned "Angelic Grief", and while I don't know if that is the name of this memorial, nor whom it honors, I do know that it conveys it's sentiments well.  ~  Karen
ANGELIC GRIEF
O Lord,
may I believe in the darkness,
when all hope has vanished,
when the waves beat with fury
and no star liights my sky.
May I believe without feeling
or knowing
or proving.
'Til one shining moment when
You shatter the darkness
and all I believed for
is suddenly mine.

"Open Now Thy Gates Of Beauty"  Lutheran Hymnal #1
Muffin
1983-1996
Open now Thy gates of beauty,
Zion, let me enter there,
Where my soul in joyful duty
Waits for Him who answers prayer.
Oh, how blessed is this place,
Filled with solace, light and grace!

Lord, my God, I come before Thee,
Come Thou also unto me;
Where we find Thee and adore Thee,
There a Heaven on earth must be.
To my heart, oh enter Thou,
Let it be Thy temple now!

Here Thy praise is gladly chanted,
Here Thy seed is duly sown;
Let my soul, where it is planted,
Bring forth presious sheaves alone,
So that all I hear may be
Fruitful unto life in me.
Thou my faith increase and quicken,
Let me keep Thy gift divine,
Howsoe'er temptations thicken;
May Thy Word still o'er me shine
As my guiding star through life,
As my comfort in my strife.

Speak, O God and I will hear Thee,
Let Thy will be done indeed;
May I undisturbed draw near Thee
While Thou dost Thy people feed.
Here of life the fountain flows,
Here is balm for all our woes.

Amen
