Charlie was my first bird. There was never any real desire to have birds in the house, I was already owned by a few cats and a couple of dogs. On a Sunday afternoon visit to the pet shop, I wandered through the bird section. In the middle of the floor sat a cage with this big green bird in it. As I looked at the smaller birds, the big green one climbed around the inside of his cage, watching every move I made. The shop owner told me the birds name was Charlie, and he was there on consignment. After we left, I couldn't get Charlie out of my mind. For the next two days I read all I could about Amazon Parrots, and visited this green bird. Wednesday, I introduced the first bird into my household.

When filling his plastic food and water bowls, I discovered cigarette burns in them. Looking abit closer at Charlie, I saw that one forward toe appeared to have been broken, and the talon from that toe was missing. After the Keeper came home, we discovered Charlie hated baseball hats, glasses and men. Abuse was the first thing that entered my mind.

Since that time, I've come to believe the devil is green, not red. Charlies first seven years must have been hell. But, even after the bites and attacks, I still love him for himself. If I cry, he cries with me. When I laugh he cackles right along. He doesn't talk much, but what he does say conveys everything he wants you to know. Momma loves her baby bird!

Booger is a Jenday Conure. Spoiled by her daddy, the Keeper. Her name came from when she would do something, like pull a beard hair, he would say 'you little booger'. I tried for a NICE name, but Booger stuck... no pun intended.

Peaches was an impulse buy. He had been sold to my favorite pet shop by a private breeder. The shop had just taken delivery, and the bird hadn't even been put in a cage. I entered the shop and it was love a first sight. When I asked to hold this odd looking Cockatoo, the owner laughed and handed him over. I called him Peaches immediately, because of the peach coulouring on his face and at the base of of the feathers on his head. He responded to the name Peaches, so it was never changed. Odd name for a boy!

Sweetums and Peebers are my oldest Cockatiels. She is the yellow pearled and he the normal grey. They are a bonded pair and have produced several clutches of offspring. Pebbers is very devoted to his lady love, Sweetums. Where ever she is, he is right there with her. They posed for this picture on their own. I had the camera out to get some shots of the cats, and they flew to the basket to watch. How could I resist?

The Cockatiels, Budgies (Parakeets), and Canary, have their own room. They aren't caged and are free to fly. I have Normal Grey & Pearled Cockatiels, one White Faced Cockatiel, and a Pied Cockatiel. Most of the Budgies are varied shades of green or yellow, one is a dusky blue, and one is turquoise. The Canary is a yellow and brown female named Cher, her deceased mate was a yellow Canary named Sunny.
