Afghan Center Panel: Ch 110. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 109 sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 1: *Sc in next stitch, skip 2 stitches, 5 dc in next stitch for shell, skip 2 stitches; repeat from * across, end sc in last stitch - 18 shells across. Ch 2, turn. (Note: Ch 2 does not count as a stitch on the next row.) Row 2: *Dc in sc, ch 2, sc in center dc of shell ch 2; repeat from * across, end dc in last sc. Ch 2, turn. Row 3: Work 2 dc in first dc, sc in next sc, *5 dc in next dc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, end 3 dc in last dc. Ch 1 turn. Row 4: Sc in first dc, * ch 2, dc in next sc, ch 2, sc in center dc of shell; repeat from * across, end sc in last stitch. Ch 1, turn. Row 5: Sc in next sc, *5 dc in next dc for shell, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, end sc in last sc. Ch 2, turn. Repeat Rows 2 through 5 a total of 21 times, end last repeat at Row 4. Side Borders: Working across long edge (ends of rows) work 127 sc evenly spaced to corner (work 1 sc in each sc post, 2 sc in each dc post). Fasten off. Join yarn on other long edge and work the same.

Motifs: Make 26. (Note: You will begin by making 2 strips of 5 motifs each to join to short edges of shell pattern. Next, you will make 2 strips of 8 motifs each to join to long edges.

Ch 6, join with slip stitch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 1, * sc in ring, ch 4, slip stitch in 4th ch from hook (picot); repeat from * 3 times more, join with slip stitch to first sc - 4 picots. Rnd 2: Sc in back loop of same sc as slip stitch, * ch 2, holding picot to the front, sc in back loop of next sc; repeat from * 2 times more, end ch 2, join with slip stitch to first sc - 4 ch-2 spaces. Rnd 3: * In next ch-2 space work sc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, sc; repeat from * 3 times more. Do not join. Rnd 4: Working behind Rnd 3, sc in back loop of sc of Rnd 2, * ch 2, holding petal to the front, sc in back loop of next sc of Rnd 2; repeat from * 2 times more, end ch 2, join with slip stitch to first sc - 4 ch-2 spaces. Rnd 5: Ch 1, work 4 sc in each ch-2 space around, join with slip stitch to first sc - 16 sc. Rnd 6: * Ch 4, skip sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around, end ch 4, slip stitch in first sc - 8 ch-4 loops. Rnd 7: In each ch-4 space work sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc, join with slip stitch in first sc. Rnd 8: Work sc around post of sc on Rnd 6, * ch 6, repeat from * 2 times more, end ch 6, skip 1 sc, slip stitch in first sc - 4 ch-6 spaces. Rnd 9: * In next ch-6 space, work sc, hdc, 2 dc, trc, 2 dc, hdc, sc, ch 3; repeat from * around, end with slip stitch in first sc. For First Motif of Each Strip: Fasten off. For remaining motifs of each motif do not fasten off.

Joining Motifs: For 2 short strips you will need 4 additional motifs per strip; for 2 long strips you will need 7 additional motifs per strop. Ch 2, working on first motif work a slip stitch by inserting hook from back to front into first stitch of the motif; * ch 2, on second motif skip 1 stitch, in next stitch work slip stitch from front to back, ch 2, on first motif skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in next stitch as before; repeat from * across, end on first motif with a slip stitch. in this manner, join motifs into strips.

Join Strips to Afghan: Join short strips to top and bottom of center panel working joinings in the same manner as on joining motifs. Next, join long side panel in the same manner.

Border: Rnd 1: Join yarn with sc in any corner, *(ch 2, skip 1 stitch, sc in next stitch) to joining, ch 2, sc in joining; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to first sc. mark end of rnd.

Rnd 2: * ch 3, sc in next ch-loop; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch.

Rnd 3: * ch 4, sc in next ch-loop; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch.

Rnd 4: * ch 5, sc in next ch-loop; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch.

Rnd 5: * ch 6, sc in next ch-loop; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch.

Rnd 6: * ch 7, sc in next ch-loop; repeat from * around, join with slip stitch.

Fasten off.
