Gender is pervasive within our society. With extreme fluidity, gender intersects every community, including the various communities within Michigan State University. Respecting Individuals on Neutral Grounds (RING), the University Activities Board (UAB) and Residence Hall Association (RHA), at Michigan State University wishes to sponsor this year's annual Drag Performance to honor and celebrate the richness that is individual expression of gender.
In unity, the members of the MSU community are invited to participate in an exciting and entertaining event showcasing the talents of our community. Drag performance is an opportunity to pay tribute to a performer or create a character, not parody a gender. Through musical performance, awareness of gender identity will be raised, acceptance of individuality will be promoted, and mental borders and boundaries will be expanded.
The annual Drag Performance is meant to be an exciting and entertaining experience. RING strives to provide an atmosphere of acceptance and support at all times. The annual Drag Performance is no exception. All people are invited and encouraged to showcase unique individual or group talent in a respectful and thoughtful way. Performances intended to degrade a gender, promote violence against womyn, perpetuate gender and racial stereotypes, or over-exaggerate anatomical features are not welcome. With help and participation from the Michigan State community, this year's performance is sure to be an enthralling and uproarious good time. Together, we will join in celebration of everyone's right to express the person inside.
