I fell in love with this character the minute I started playing Suikoden V. Ever since I started playing the Suikoden games I absolutely loved them and though there are many costumes which I really want to make this one happend to be the 3rd one to get done.
Several things about this costume posed a problem. The first being her sword. NDK has a no metal weapons policy so to have her sword I'd have to make it. Well I found a fake wooded sword that looked almost like hers at the Colorado Ren Faire, I just had to take off the hand gaurd and paint it with the design hers has. Second is I've never made armor, and Lyon has quite a bit of armor. So what I did was get the fun foam stuff. Joanns carries a roll of about 1yard x 48" or something like that so I got one of the white ones. Cute the pieces out of it. The armor came in 5 different pieces, the foot gaurd, shin gaurd, knee gaurd, and the two pieces that connected the foot gaurd to the shoes, which I had painted the toe and heel of. All but the connector pieces were actually two pieces the base shape of the guard piece and an overlain detailed piece that was then hot glued to the base piece and then painted with 4 layers of gold paint.The pieces were connected together with those thumb tack thingys that have the flat wings you can seperate, like the ones that come on the big envolopes to help seal them. The connecter pieces were held to the shoes by thumb tacks.Third is the Ribbon that looks like a ribbon at the bottom but a rope when in laces in and out of the jacket collar. What I did was just take the ribbon and curl it so that it looked like a tube and laced it like that and let the extras hang down uncurled. Forth was the wig. It was the first time I actually had to style and cut a wig beyond just putting it in a pony tail. I must say I am very proud of how it came out.
I'm hoping someday to make Lyon's disguise outfit and possibly one of the concept costumes she has. I actually like her hair better in the concept pictures than in the game. |
