Internet Classics Archive features over 441 works of classic literature by 59 different authors. These are mainly Greco-Roman works (some Chinese and Persian), all in English translation. It includes classics, such as Homer, as well as the writings of Julius Caesar & Confusious.

Project Gutenberg has literaly hundreds & probably thousands of pieces of literature online whose copyright has run out. You can find tons of free books here!

Spectrum Library is made up of online poems, stories, & fiction.

Kids Space (formerly thekids.com) is a place to explore illustrated stories from around the world through rhymes, fables, adventure stories, and folk & fairy tales. There are actual stories online, discussion areas, and, in the Kids Stuff, you can write stories, play games, vote on the stories, & more.

The World As We Knew It Links offers a listing of collections of books that are published on the web. They are broken down by author & then title.


General Language Arts Links

Awesome Library's Language Arts Worksheets has several links to printable worksheets you can use to teach literature, writing skills, & grammar.

Ed's Oasis lets you know about sites that are interactive or full of extensive information.

Electronic Teaching Assistance Program has tutorials for K-12 Language Arts that cover concepts such as phonics, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, listening & speaking skills, genre, literary criticisms & more! There are several links from each lesson for practice. You have to register to use this site, but registration is free.

freeworksheets.com (formerly School Express Free Worksheets) has preschool, language arts, phonics, reading, & sentence & story writing worksheets that you can print out.

Funschool.com is a site with interactive educational games. It is free & there is nothing to download. It covers concepts from pre-k through 6th grade.

Hutt's Reading & Language Skills has lots of links to lesson plans & helps!

Interactive Assessment Worksheets has reading, comprehension, & vocabulary worksheets for Matilda & Danny the Champion of the World.

Magic Treehouse Teacher's Guides offers lesson plans for this series from Mary Pope Osborne. They are a great introduction to history & science for kids in grades K - 3. The kids might want to check out Random House Teacher's Resource Center has teacher guides for a portoin of their juvenile literature.

Scholastic's Harry Potter Homepage offers study guides & puzzles for each of the books in the series.

Spectrum Library has 2 activities that go with the Harry Potter books: Allstar Dream Cast allows you to cast the Harry Potter movie and Reality vs Fantasy which uses these books to explore the differences.

Valder Phonics Program is currently putting up lessons for teaching your child to read.

Comenius English Language Center is aimed at people who are learning English as a second language, but they have reading comprehension exercises that are helpful - the Fables & Idioms.

Word Parts offers some roots for vocabulary study. Many of them are pulled out of the Harry Potter series.
