1. Call to Order (Eric)
Meeting called to order at 6.33 p.m. Members welcomed by Chair. Geoff Higgins (School Planning Council Election Organizer) introduced.
2. Adoption of Agenda (Eric)
3. Approval of January 15th, 2003, RAMPAC General Meeting Minutes
- Copies of minutes distributed.
- Moved (Ray Lett) and seconded (Nellva Kurylo) that January 15th, 2003, Meeting minutes be accepted as distributed. Approved.
4. Parent Volunteers: (S. Yao)
- Asked for parent volunteers to staff cloakroom at Feb 27th school dance. Cheryl & Paul volunteered.
5. Grad Fashion Show (Patty Freeman)
- Asked for parent volunteers to help with March 5th school fashion show . 80-100 students expected. Tickets will be $6-8. Revenue from event should be approx. $2000.
6. Administration - Principal
- Four new staff hired and expects 8 additional staff will transfer from Arbutus (5) and Landsdown (3) schools in Sept 2003.
- Graphing calculators to be discouraged from school exams because other information can be stored and downloaded and exams could be compromised.
- Several students were hired as extras for TV film school at school. Shoot generated up to $4000 providing additional funds for the drama department.
7. Administration – Vice Principal (Paul Thomas)
- "Cool Schools" program is a SD 61on-line learning initiative for subjects including math, chemistry, social studies. Program aims at helping students who are unable to fit classes into existing schedules. Presently there are 3 to 4 schools, including Mt. Doug that are active in the program.
- Visited Arbutus school with leadership students to provide information about Mt Doug for G8 Arbutus students who will be entering Mt. Doug in Sept. 2003. Two classes visited showed video about Mt. Doug. presented.
8. Administration – Vice Principal (Deb Courville)
- Upgrades to school needed to accommodate up to 1000 students in September 2003. Upgrades will include;
- (a) library extension, (b) photo/art room reconfiguration (c) multi-media room reconfiguration (d) band room improvements (e) second floor class rooms improvement (f) improvements to science labs to accommodate G9 and 10 students (g) increasing the size of the earth sciences room (h) painting school building.
9. VCPAC – Nellva Kurylo
- Most recent VCPAC meeting attended concerned school closures. Expects that information on possible school closures will be posted on VCPAC web site.
- Other items discussed included VCPAC opposition to video surveillance at schools. Presently decision by SD 61 about video surveillance is on hold.
- "Punch to Head" program introduced to warn students about head injuries.
- GCTA providing workshops on social justice
10. Finances – (Paul McGroarty)
- $180 donations received from parents. Tax receipts provided.
- RAMPAC accounts balance is now $10,654.91. Disbursements from Gaming account as of Feb. has been $16,610.97. Gaming Application accepted & being processed. Mt. Doug weight listed for alternative bingo location now that 7-11 has closed.
11. School Planning Council (SPC) Elections (Geoff Higgins)
- School Planning Council for Mt. Doug must be elected as mandated in Section 8 of the School Act The SPC will be the Mt. Doug. Principal, one teacher (Cheryl Chappel) and three elected parents (one from the RAMPAC executive).
- Nomination's for parent councilors invited by Geoff.
- John Roche nominated by Eric Flannigan and seconded by Ray Lett
- Eric Flannigan nominated by Nellva Kurylo and seconded by Patti Freeman.
- Patti Freeman nominated by Gail Krickan and seconded by Paul McGroarty.
- Geoff Higgins declared the nominations closed and requested a vote by ballot. John Roche, Eric Flannigan and Patti Freeman Elected by a majority vote.
