Born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, Matthew Thomas lived in a little cottage on a quiet road. The fifth son out of a family of seven. Matthew's musical influences came from his father and two older brothers. His country influence came from his father, a native farmer from Indiana, who loved to sing Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, and many others all throughout the little house. Matt's folk and rock influence came from his older brothers, both guitarists.

At age nine, Matt would sit and watch his older brothers play and ask from time to time what chords they were playing, the more he watched, the more he learned. When his brothers were not around, he would sneak and play their guitars and learn Beatles songs.

By age twenty-one, Matt was good enough to become part of his brothers band Overnite. Overnite was a cover band that played classic rock and some folk. But after two years, Matt decided it was time to write his own music. After several attempts, Matt hit a note with a song called "Don't Be Shy", which made it to number three on the local charts. It also became most requested on a radio program called Soundcheck on the radio station WHJY in Providence, Rhode Island. Unfortunately, because of some differences, Overnite dispersed.

    But the music wouldn't wait.....

After a short stint, Matt was back in action with another band called Sundown. This time it was  country music. With friends Brian Mattias and Jim Harvey all singing leads, the trio sang an incredible three-part harmony compared to Crosby, Stills, and Nash, the Eagles and Diamond Rio.

Sundown took New England by storm winning country music magazines favorite local band contests, and opening for Nashville artists such as Kathy Mattea, Billy Ray Cyrus, Pam Tillis, Sammy Kershaw, Lorrie Morgan and Exile.

Feeling they had what it takes to make it, Sundown ventured down to Nashville, Tennessee to record eleven original songs. Sundown also found themselves playing at such venues as Tootsie's, Bluebird Cafe, and Bobs Western World. The band finally returned to New England to sell over 2000 CD's locally, landing them a few spots on the Tad and Brian Morning Show on WCTK Cat Country in Providence, Rhode Island. Sundown was then asked to go on the road by an entertainment company, and the reality set in that Sundown had what it took to make it. But it was then that some members of the band could not commit to such a change in their lifestyles, so Sundown ended.

Now working with guitarist Glen Macafee.
Matt has released which could be his best work yet,
