This page is the launching point to recap Dave Jr.'s experience at the Mountaineering School course run by Alpine Ascents International. It is a 6 day mountaineering course designed to prepare a person for all aspects of snow and glacier climbing. This is a pre-req towards taking on intermediate level climbs.
Update: Well, it is late July '05 and I have returned from the mountaineering course. There is so much to say about it, but so little web page in which to do so. In short, IT WAS AWESOME, BABY!! and I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BIGGER CHALLENGE!!
The AAI group had everything fairly well organized and our guides (Eric and Adam) were great - deftly adapting our course's instruction with the varied weather. The weather? Well, it's the north Cascades and that means anything and changing frequently. We had rainy weather the first 2-3 days with a gradual clearing through the 3rd-4th days with an absolutely beautiful 5th day for our summit attempt of Mt. Baker. We closed out with an overcast, drizzle on the 6th day, but by then we were heading down the mountain and back to Seattle. Sometimes it's hard to describe my passion for hiking and climbing mountains. Hopefully, the pics from this trip will give you a little understanding of the my week long experience. |
