Day 1-2 - Denver Run Around |
Our trip began as soon as Cole finished his 2 day Missouri Tiger Basketball camp in Columbia, Missouri. We drove from Columbia, MO to Salina, KS and stayed overnight.. We made it to Denver the next day by about 1:00 PM. I like to get into Denver in the early afternoon, as it allows time to get time zone adjusted and altitude adjusted at 5,000ft. One of the things I usually do the first day in Denver is make sure we get out and walk a bit. I accomplish this by heading to REI - which is fun even if you do already have everything - and also by walking in that area to some restaurant for dinner. |
So Cole and I went to REI, shopped for a new tent, a water filter, a lightweight rain jacket for me and a few other miscellaneous items. After that, we fit in a few kid friendly activities which helped in the walking goal and also helped from an educational aspect for the trip. |
Ocean Journey |
We went to the Ocean's Journey in downtown Denver. It is a large aquarium type exhibit which shows a river's journey from the heartland down to the ocean. Various aquatic life are on display. |
Museum of Nature & Science |
On the 2nd day, we went to Denver's Museum of Nature & Science It is a great place to go with kids for all the nature displays and the IMAX theatre. We saw a number of the exhibits and also watched the "Bugs" IMAX and the "Passport to the Universe" in the Planetarium. (Note: if you can't handle spatial 3D visuals, the 'Universe' digital movie across the Planetarium ceiling is not for you). It did not bother Cole and me as we just leaned back like we were watching the stars. Yes, after watching this, one has to suspect that there is indeed some other life out there in the vast space. |
