Camp Log - PA Grand Canyon
Summer 2001
Home Page
Summer of 2001 brought 2 trips to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.  One was in August which was a Stag trip and the second, in September was a guys and gals journey.  Both were loads of fun and we will return again.  Here are some highlights of both trips.
On both trips we stayed at Pettecote Junction Campground in Cedar Run.  We found this to be a perfect spot for our liking.  The campsites are nice and the bathrooms are clean but you need those quarters. It appears the bathrooms are slated for improvements soon.

Access to fising and the
Pine Creek Rails to Trails is right there at camp.  This is the closest campground to the restricted area of the canyon proper and offers a lot.
This was our campsite on trip #1. It was in the mid 90"s and we did "rest" a lot. The creek was about 30 yds. away and we were there quite a bit.
We like to bike the Pine Creek Rail toTrail and of all the trails we have been on this is tops.  Currently the trail starts in Ansonia and runs south for about 45 miles right thru the canyon.  At about the 23 mile marker the trail passes right by the campground.  Wildlife abounds in this area and only one day passed that we did not get an up close with a Bald Eagle.
Gotta keep your eye on the trail for that stray rattler.
Even Bears gotta go !!!
Trip #2 was in September and the gals went along.  The weather was great, mid 60's to mid 70' in day and 40's at night.  The campground was deserted and on 2 nights there were only 3 other sites with tenters.  Nice & Quiet.

On this trip the wife was in heaven.  She is a big bird watcher and we could hardly pry her out of the chair.  Bald Eagles and Osprey were flying right into camp.

Pine Creek as it exits the canyon.
This falls is about 1/2 way on the canyon trail.
Looking North up the canyon,  That's the trail way down there on the right.
