Here's my take on this past weekend's letterbox adventure! Critics have this to say: "...sounds a little dramatic :-)", from Whitney. Brick said, ..."kinda lame I didn't finish reading it," and Lynton wrote, ... "that's cute!! Although I think you read too many romance novels"... This past weekend Team 'Frick n Frack' took our DHs along with us for the first time while "we" letterboxed! We stopped briefly at Clarke Reservation State Park to chase down a box we overlooked the week before. In addition, we found a little "gem" of a box that is yet to be posted making our extra trip more than worth it! Many thanks to its owner for letting us know about it! The guys in the meantime meandered along enjoying this unique park and catching up on the last 12 years. Then on we went to nearby Green Lakes State Park, for yet more boxes we didn't know about on our first trip! Having done our "homework" this time, we went off in pursuit of a couple letterboxes leaving the men behind to prepare our tailgate lunch. We found 'Dalliance' with no difficulty this time. Dalliance was snug and dry in her "centrifuge tube" nestled in its hiding place! Solving the "clews" to this are worth doing even if you don't plan to look for it! We were dealt a different hand looking for the 'Ace of Diamonds'! We found the clues for the Ace a little perplexing and after searching doggedly for quite some time and getting a "we ate all the chili waiting for you" cell call we reluctantly conceded defeat and returned to the parking lot hoping they were just kidding! Dishing up our chili we persuaded them to give it a try while we ate. When they didn't return we went back in search of them to find them in the same spot stumbling over the same clues as we did! Whew!...we were half afraid they would find it as well as not! Needing a morale boost we took the men with us and moved on to find the rest of The Gambler Series on a different trail. A morale boost we got when we found 'Noodle in a Basket' hosting a little hitchiker just starting her journey! 'Bloomie Toomie' was our first hitchiker; we were elated! Spurred, we went on, finding 'The Ace of Spades' intact and dry in its 'tube'. We stamped in for our DHs as well as our selves, noting that they weren't exactly "into" this! They seemed content to stroll behind exchanging hunting tales while we compared clues to the terrain until...... running into dead-ends, we finally had to enlist their aid! Oh Brother!... hunting being their usual topic of conversation they began to expound "when you're tracking deer you..." It's a letterbox guys! After surveying the clues, THEY, indeed found the letterbox and while we stamped in under a dripping sky they set off tracking down the last deer.....uh, letterbox! A little later, marching out of the woods were two "hunters" puffed with pride over today's grand hunting success as we 'womenfolk' followed behind and, winking one to the other, said "We could not have done it without you boys!" Happily, in addition to elk hunting, turkey hunting and deer hunting there will now be a "Box Hunting Season"! |
