Composite Performance Disclosure and MTSI simulated results advertising before November 1999.
MTSI’s current composite performance results reflect time-weighted rates of return of a model/actual/sample portfolio which has traded equities in real time based upon MTSI’s proprietary analysis and switching service. During its startup year, (i.e., when inadequate actual results existed for long-term assessment and adaquate disclosure of MTSI actual account performance character) MTSI advertised its simulated performance results of the original Mastertimer model. During its first SEC examination in 1999, MTSI learned that some of its previous advertising of these previous Mastertimer model simulated trade results had, in its limited-space print advertising, not contained adequate disclosure information per then most current standards governing the advertising of simulated trading results. Also, simulated trading results never could have reflected the effect of manager discretion, which has always operated upon the actual trading performance of MTSI. MTSI also learned that the performance calculations as stated by Gregory Meadors for these simulated results should have been calculated by him using the geometric mean, and not a simple averaging of the net ending performance by the number of years over which the simulation was run. Consequently, MTSI corrected this advertising by showing only actual trading results in a sample client account, which at that time had spanned more than one year. By this time, these long term real time performance results were deemed to be a good duration to faithfully demonstrate the balance of MTSI's actual trading characteristics. However, since 1998 MTSI has always posted the actual record of its real time trades on this website, even as it was still advertising the simulated trade results during its first year of business. The trades posted on this website from September 1998 through June 2000 reflect the use of that prior Mastertimer model by MTSI from September 1998 through June 2000. That prior Mastertimer model was then superceded exclusivly by the Shinnick Mastertimer model, which has been the only model ever personaly used by Mark Shinnick and has been the exclusive model used by MTSI since July 2000, when Gregory Meadors resigned from trading duties at MTSI. Each version of the Mastertimer model has always been used as the initial basis for each MTSI trade consideration by its managers. Moreover, Mastertimer model signals have always been subject to the use of manager discretion, which can, and does sometimes negate the net position of the Mastertimer model. Management discretion most frequently affects the percentage of net capital which is placed at risk in any trade. Due to on-going evolution and refinements of the Mastertimer model, the most recent of Mr. Shinnick's market and modeling research and development may not yet be encoded within, and reflected by, the current capabilities of Mastertimer, or any of MTSI's recent trading results. Performance results reflect the re-investment of dividends and other earnings, and include deductions for normal management fees. Results should generally reflect the deduction of MTSI’s investment management fee, the payment of which has the effect of decreasing the net composite performance to that which is indicated as the net performance result. Investment management fees vary by individual client account depending upon the market value of assets under management, but generally range between 1.50% and 3.0% of the market value of assets under management. In effect, MTSI believes the management fee it charges is inconsequential compared to the volitility of any given investors account, which can and does frequently easily exceed 1% to 3% during the course of any given trading day, and/or spans of only a few days. Investment management fees and practices are set forth in MTSI’s written disclosure statement as same is on file with the State of California and is available from MTSI upon written request.
Past performance may not be indicative of future results and the performance of a specific individual client account may vary substantially from the composite performance results. Therefore, no current or prospective client should assume that future performance will be profitable or equal to the composite performance results reflected herein, or to that any other period of MTSI performance results. Those composite performance results indicated as Americas’ Best Timers, Inc. tabulated results of the different Investment Advisors it tracks have been compiled solely by Schreiner Capital Management, Inc. in accordance with the methods and standards prescribed by the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) and have not been independently verified. In calculating account performance, Schreiner Capital Management has relied upon information provided by various sources, primarily the account's custodian(s), and MTSI in turn has relied upon Schreiner Capital Management for that performance data. The MTSI Internet website is periodically updated from information obtained from various sources, and at various times. The data presented on one page may be different from that on any other page simply because one page has been updated before the other in the course and available time of MTSI's ordinary business. The information of each page is usually uniquely identified with a date at the page's bottom as to when it was last posted. For the most current posting of information periodically provided by MTSI, please examine MTSI's entire Internet website. MTSI's clients should contact their custodian to obtain the most current information about their account(s).
Different types of investments involve varying degrees of risk, and there can be no assurance that any specific investment will be profitable. MTSI’s investment strategies involve the use of leveraged instruments and may involve above-average portfolio turnover which could negatively impact upon the net after-tax gain experienced by an individual client.
