Donateware
Donateware (or donationware) is a form of software distribution. Distributed as freeware, donateware stipulates that the user must donate to a charitable cause in order to "register" the software.
Predictably, this form of software distribution is very uncommon.

A variation of Donateware is where the author requests user donation to a designated charity to legally use the software after a trial period. After verification of the donation, author sends user a registration code to disable popup reminder messages.

Another form of Donationware is when the author makes the software fully functional and free but request (sometimes loudly) that you really should donate to the software creator whatever you feel is proper. Spybot falls under this category.
Freeware
Freeware is computer software which is made available free of charge. It usually carries a license that permits redistribution but may have other restrictions, such as limitations on its commercial use.
Commercial vendors often release freeware as a loss leader to attract customers to other services or products available for a fee.
Adware or advertising-supported software is any software application in which advertisements are displayed while the program is running. These applications include additional code that displays the ads in pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen.

Some adware is also shareware, as such it may be used as term of distinction used to differentiate between types of shareware software. What differentiates adware from other shareware is that it is primarily advertising supported. Users may also be given the option to pay for a "registered" or "licensed" copy, which typically does away with the advertisements.

Some adware programs have been criticized for occasionally including code that tracks a user's personal information and passes it on to third parties, without the user's authorization or knowledge. This practice has been dubbed spyware.
Other adware programs do not track a user's personal information. Often, spyware applications send the user's browsing habits to an adserving company, which then targets adverts at the user based on their interests.
Adware
Shareware is a marketing method for software, whereby a trial version is distributed. shareware,Typically shareware software is obtained free of charge by downloading, thus allowing one to try out the program ahead of time this trial version very often has inbuilt limitations to the applications until purchased, not all features will be available for example.
Many of the top line professional applications have shareware trial versions, such as photoshop and macromedia flash. These applications can cost hundreds of pounds so downloading a free trial to test the application is genrally a good idea!
