WELCOME! SO WHO ARE THE BROBECKS?

My little indie rock and roll outfit from Salt Lake City.

WHERE DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME?

Its a homage to an unpopular individual i knew of as a youth. Or just a homage to the unpopular in general.

I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR BAND. I ESPECIALLY LIKE YOUR NEW SONG ’DON’T LIKE YOU ANYMORE’ IS THIS GOING TO BE ON YOUR NEXT CD?

I hope so, a lot of songs i really enjoy may not make the cut. Keep your fingers crossed.

HOW’S IT GOING IN THE STUDIO, WHEN CAN WE EXPECT TO HEAR ABOUT A RELEASE DATE?

We actually wrapped up the majority of the recordings in 2 weeks. Now we just have to finish mixing. Should be another 2 weeks before we start talking release dates, but if dreams come true, it should be out in the spring.

WHERE ARE YOU RECORDING AND WHO’S YOUR PRODUCER? HAVE YOU WORKED WITH THEM BEFORE?

The album was recorded in Boston at the home of producer Casey Crescenzo (the dear hunter.) He is my hero.

YOU’VE HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS WITH A SONG CALLED ’2ND BOYS WILL BE 1ST CHOICE’ WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THAT? - ALSO WHERE CAN WE FIND THIS TRACK?

Yeah! X96 (KXRK in SLC) added us to their daily rotation recently. after it was added, it hit the 1 most requested song on the station. Right now we are trying to raise money for SXSW. Anyone who makes a donation will get the Mp3.

HOW MANY CD’S HAVE YOU RECORDED AND RELEASED ALREADY? WHERE CAN WE BUY THEM AND WERE ALL THESE RELEASES DONE BY YOURSELVES?

I’ve made a few Albums with the Brobecks, but they have all been really indie, basement do it yourself records. more like demos than anything. A couple are up on itunes, but once the official first record is done, those will probably get taken down. its kind of like having your jr high yearbook photo for sale.

ARE YOU CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A LABEL TO SIGN YOU? YOU SEEM TO BE DOING VERY WELL WITHOUT THEIR HELP...

I’m not opposed to the idea. Ive had the opportunity to sign this or that contract, but you have to be smart about that sort of thing.

I’VE HEARD YOU COMPARED TO WEEZER A LOT. WHO DO YOU FEEL ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? ALSO WHO DO YOU LISTEN TO? WHO’S ON YOUR ’iPOD’?

I really love ’Pinkerton’. I’d say that was an influence on me. Elvis Costello, The Beatles (of course). But some of the best songs were the pop tunes of the 19th and early 20th century: ’sweet adeline’, ’daisy’ i love that stuff so much.

YOU’VE HAD A LOT OF LINE-UP CHANGES AND HAD UP TO FIVE PEOPLE IN THE BAND AT ONE TIME. ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANY NEW MEMBERS RIGHT NOW, OR ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CURRENT CHEMISTRY?

Actually nine different people have come and gone in my little band, and that works fine for me. The fellas who are in the current line up are class acts. We may add some keys and a bassist soon.

UTAH IS FAMOUS FOR THE SUNDANCE FESTIVAL AND THE WINTER OLYMPICS, BUT YOU DON’T HEAR OF MANY BANDS COMING FROM THERE. WHAT’S THE MUSIC SCENE LIKE IN SALT LAKE CITY?

There are a handfull of bands in SLC and Provo that i really admire. I couldn’t really comment on the scene, i’ve never really been part of it.

THERE WAS A CONTEST HELD BY SALT LAKE CITY’S ’CITY WEEKLY’ CALLED "THE SLAMMYS" THAT YOU WERE IN THE RUNNING FOR. SO WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT?

We won!! Best Indie Pop. We got an awesome plaque and everything...

YOU’VE SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME GREAT BANDS SUCH AS SNOW PATROL... WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SHOW AND WHY?

Phantom Planet @The Roxy and Ben Kweller @ In the Venue... for different reasons, but i have admired them both for years and years. I listen to their albums all the time.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT PLAYING TO A LIVE AUDIENCE? AND DO YOU LIKE THE MASSIVE STAGES OR THE MORE INTIMATE GIGS BETTER?

I dont think i’m really comfortable on a big stage. Maybe that will change if we play more of them. But when you’re in a crowded smaller place, everyone is on the same level and its more like they are a part of the show, not just watching.

I SAW YOUR VIDEO FOR ’BIKE RIDE’ WHICH IS ON ’GOOD NIGHT AND HAVE A PLEASANT TOMORROW’ - VERY FUN VIDEO. COULD YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IT’S ABOUT AND ALSO WHO DIRECTED IT FOR YOU?

I wish i could, but i dont really know, it’s actually a fan video. I think they did a great job though.

WELL, GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW ALBUM! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SAY?

Thank you! ..and keep smilin’
