Certificate of Disability for Discharge

Alexander Buchanan, of Capt Jacob W. Bowmans Company B of the 58th NC Regiment of Confederate States Vols, was enlisted by Capt J.W. Bowman of the 58th Regiment of NC Vol at Rock Creek, NC on the 17 Day of May 1862, to serve three years; he was borne in Yancy County in the state of North Carolina, is twenty six years of age, Six feet 00 inches high, fair complexion blue eys, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last 4 months the soldier has been unfit for duty for the last four months. Station: Big Creek Gap (Lenin?) Date: March 3, 1863 J. ???????????????? Commanding Company

I certify that I have carefully examined the said Alexander Buchanan of Capt._____ company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because extensive (phaplnessic?) ulcers of the leg of long standing. I futher certify that I do not believe said soldier will ever be able for any kind of military duty.
