He had always been there for her, from the very beginning. He had had no reason to try and not rebel or fight her. Yet he hadn't. He had had no reason to back her up and to help her as second-in-command of the ship. Yet he had. He had had no reason to be there for her, standing by her side, always there. Yet she hadn't always been there for him. Sure he was her closest friend, but she didn't feel like she deserved it. She always pushed him away, wouldn't let him get too close. Why? She wanted that closeness, yet she wouldn't permit it. She didn't want to become extremely close to him and then lose him. It would crush her. She had a choice; he wasn't always going to be here and wasn't going to wait either. She could be happy and have what she truly wanted or she could continue to push him away. Ruining their already fragile relationship, and never knowing what could have been. She wasn't a total fool, she knew that most things didn't last forever; but still, she felt that this just might. So there it was. Probably the simplest decision she would ever have to make in her life, yet the one decision she had spent the longest concluding. There she stood, in front of his quarters. She could ring the chime or she could turn around and forget she had even had these thoughts. She had always been there, even in the beginning. She had had no reason to trust him; to think that he wouldn't start a rebellion. Yet she had. She had had no reason to make him her first officer. Yet she had. She had become his friend, his closest friend. Two people who had been enemies had become close within a year or so. She had never wanted to further their relationship. Although he didn't agree with her decision he still respected her for it. There had been so many times when he knew she felt the same, where the relationship that they didn't have was palpable. He wondered if they would ever be. She outstretched her arm and let her hand hover over the chime. The very thing that would lead to her utter happiness or her complete downfall. Without thinking of the consequences anymore she pushed it. "Come in," a voice said. His voice. In those words he had initiated the beginning. The End Feedback is welcomed! Home |
