MGD2 BACK UP CARD USER'S MANUAL

1. INSTALLATION:
First, plug the back up card into the MGD2 slot. Then plug
the cartridge/Hucard into its corresponding slot on the back up
card. The installation is completed. Note that when this back
up card is manufactured, most of the time 3 slots are already
installed. They are the slots for PC Engine, Mega Drive, and
Super Famicom. Whether all 3 slots are installed or not must be
specified when the back up card is bought. When plugging a Super
Famicom cartridge into its back up card slot, make sure the
"front" of the cardtridge is facing the side of the back up card
with a sticker. If you want to back up Game Boy, Game Gear
cartridges, you have to contact the retailer to add the
corresponding slots.

2. OPERATIONS:
Insert the back up software (the back up disk) into the disk
drive of the MGD2 and turn on the MGD2 (Now, there may be a 'X'
flashing, it is ok so ignore it). Press the 'SELECT' key and the
back up software is executed, follow the MGD2 display to finish
the back up procedure.
In the beginning, the display shows 'MD'. Use the 'SELECT'
key to change the display to 'PC', 'SF', 'GB', or 'GG'. These
five abbreviations represent Mega Drive, PC Engine, Super Famicom,
Game Boy, or Game Gear respectively. After choosing the correct
system prefix, press '+' or '-' once and the back up is started.
First, the software checks the capacity of the cartridge/
Hucard and determines the third digit of the game's number
representation. (If a cartridge/Hucard is absent, the display
shows 'xx'). The first two digits are one of the mentioned
abbreviations (MD, PC, ...). The fourth, fifth, and sixth
digits are determined by you. (If you do not want to enter these
last three digits, just press 'SELECT' three times.) Different
cartrdiges/Hucards have different number representations because
of the difference in capacities. i.e. '8XXX' represents 8M,
'4XXX' represents 4M, '2XXX' represents 2M, and '1XXX' represents
1M. For games less than 1M, the number representations are
'00XX' to '04XX' for 1/4M, '05XX' to '09XX' for 1/2M.
    For example, 'MD8013', 'PC8006', or 'SF8024' represents an 8M
game; 'GB1023' or 'GG1001' represents a 1M game; 'GB0025' or
'GG0499' represents a 1/4M game; 'GB0564' or 'GG0998' represents
a 1/2M game, etc.
Let us use 'MD4XXX' as an example and see how to choose the
number representation of the game to be 'MD4108'. First, the
right side of the display flashes with a '0'. This is the fourth
digit of the number representation, you can use '+' or '-' to
change this digit, in the range of '0' to '9'. (In this example,
you choose the digit '1' by pressing '+' and then 'SELECT'.) The
fifh and sixth digits are entered in the same manner. (In this
example, you choose the digit '0' by simply pressing the
'SELECT', and you choose the fifth digit '8' by pressing '-'
twice and then 'SELECT'.) However, if you have not finished
entering the number representation, the left side of the display
flashes with the digits you have entered. For example, if you
are entering the last digit, '8', and have not entered 'SELECT',
the left side of the display continues to flash consecutively
'MD410', this reminds you that the sixth digit is not entered.
When the number representation is entered completely, the display
shows the symbol '>>', indicating that you should insert a blank
disk into the MGD2 disk drive for back up.
When the game is being backed up into the disk, a counter-
clockwise rotating timer is shown on the right side of the display
and the number representation is shown on the left side. When the
back up process is finished, the display shows 'OK'. If you want
to back up the same game into another disk, just press 'SELECT'
once and the display will show the symbol '>>' again. You then
just change the disk. The process is finished when 'OK' is shown
on the display.
When the back up software is running, you can cancel any
operations by pressing 'SELECT', '-', and '+' together. This will
return you to the very beginning where you have to choose 'MD' or
'PC' ... or 'GG'.

3. CAUTIONS:
Whenever unplugging the cartridge/Hucard, it is necessary to
turn off the MGD2 power. Otherwise, the circuits of the back up
card or the MGD2 will be damaged.
When you back up a game gear cartridge, try to press '+' when
the display shows '>>' and you have not yet inserted a disk. If
the display still shows '>>', you can safely back up the cartridge.
If it becomes '2>', that means there are two versions you can back
up the game gear cartridge as (pressing '+' again will return to
'>>'). In this case, you have to determine which version to back
up the game as. Some games work only as any version, some only
work as one version. It should be noted that, however, any game
backed up with '2>' requires a 2M or larger doctor card for normal
operation.

Error signals which may show up during a back up process
(flashing):
E15: DISK FULL, meaning that the empty space in the disk is
insufficient to back up the game
E4: DISK ERROR, meaning that the disk is bad and another disk is
      necessary
E1F: VERIFY ERROR, meaning that the data written to the disk is
incorrect; in other words, the disk has some problems.
