Simple Enjoyments
S. Cat Apr 18/04

Does anyone still enjoy reading poetry
A simple pleasure, just for its own sake?
Without delving into the hows, whys,
Wherefores, what sense does it make?

The beauty of a bright bouquet of flowers
My enjoyment comes from pure pleasure
Not in understanding their genetic codes
Rich, heady aromas, that's something I treasure

The beauty of a melodic musical composition
Makes no difference knowing a note should be whole
I don't need to know exactly how it's all written
The music enchants me, I feel it envelop my soul

The beauty of a succulent piece of fruit
Lies not in my knowing horticulture, how it grew
Its sweet tartness ripples across my tongue
I just enjoy the texture and taste, do you?

The beauty of day's dawning or sun's setting
It matters little in knowing the dispersion of light
I don't have to know how all our universe operates
The sky awash in glorious hues, pleases my sight

So the next time you read the beauty of a verse
Stop worrying 'bout counting out each beat
Enjoy for enjoyment's sake, it's quite simple
Who cares if it's done in four or five feet?
