Storm in my Soul
S. Cat May 30/04

Racing out into the evening, charged emotions
Gentle winds blow hair in swirls across my nape
Low dark clouds, angry, hang ominous above me
Distant rumbles break the silence of the night

Walking, unaware of the portents of danger
Needing the release of mindless wandering
Past the point of caring, heedless, heartsore
Walking, thinking, contemplating, deciding

Black mood matches the darkening skies
The storm in my soul, coupled and mated
To the storm of nature raging all around me
Fierce wind whips tendrils of hair in wild abandon

Black skies open up, sheets of cold hard rain
Beat down, pounding my skin like wet bullets
The fierceness of the storm, matters little now
Cold, shivering, soaked, drenched to the skin

Thunder reverberates through the bleakness
Lightning brilliant and startling, flashes overhead
The crashing and crescendo of the fierce storm
Echoes all around me, ferocious and frenzied

Sidewalks are turned into running rivers of rain
Sloshing through the ankle deep cold waters
Blackness engulfs the night as streetlights die
Eerie shadows seem to sway on the horizon

The night seemingly designed with me in mind
Sentiments expressed by nature echo within me
Fury, fierceness, turbulent, savage, untamed
Needing to seek shelter, a haven from the storm

Standing beneath and betwixt the evergreens
Sheltering below their overlapping branches
Not a total obliteration of the torrential rains
Yet a partial lessening of the fierce onslaught

Watching the magnificence of the storm rage
Howling, swirling, pounding, crashing, tempestuous
Seeing the fierceness of it taper then dissipate
As the rain washes away the storm in my soul.
