(Emmy Rossum)

Christine Daae is a young girl in the chorus and ballet at the Opera Populare, but when the star of the Opera, Carlotta, quits due to the number of mysterious "accidnets" occuring on set, Christine is thrown into the spotlight. Due to her new tutor, she is the only one capable of singing Carlotta's part. Christine believes that her mysterious teacher is in truth the angel of music that her father promised to send to her when he died. In fact, he is really the Phantom of the Opera whom has become obsessed with her and longs for her to sing his music. Christine is undeniably drawn to the Phantom, but she is in love with her childhood sweetheart, Raoul, who is the opera's new patron. This relationship sends the Phantom into a spiral of jealousy, threatening the lover's future together.
Raoul
(Patrick Wilson)

As the new patron for the opera, Raoul discovers that the opera's new star is his old childhood sweetheart, Christine Daae whom he used to call Little Lotte. He is immediately in love with her, an action which greatly angers the Phantom. At first Raoul doubts the Phantom's existence, claiming that the angel of music was nothing more than a dream. But he quickly learns that the Phantom is very real and has a dangerous attraction to Christine. Raoul fears losing her to the Phantom's draw, and the Phantom even tries to use Raoul's life as a bargaining tool to convince Christine to stay with him.
