Frequently Asked Questions
What is Genomex?
Genomex is a government funded facility that was created for genetic research. Unknown to the government however, is Genomex's other activities. Mason Eckhart (click here for Eckhart's bio), the man in charge, created the GSA (Genetic Security Agency) to track down the new mutants that they created in the past, and put an end to the danger that he believes are people with amazing abilities who will eventually destroy the world.
Who is Adam Kane?
Adam Kane was one of the men working with Mason Eckhart at Genomex. He helped create the new mutants and was a child genius that entered college at age 12. Adam formed Mutant X when he learned of what his work was being turned into, and then began to seek out individuals who were being chased by the GSA. He began to work with mutants to place other mutants in the undeground where they received a new identity. Adam is not a mutant, and works to make up for the mutants poor lives that he helped to create. Click here to read Adam's bio.
What are the four Mutant classifications?
The four classifications are:
Elemental: Elemental mutants usually have the ability to manipulate energies and the natural elements around them. Brennan Mulwray is an elemental mutant. Click here to read Brennan's bio.
Feral: Ferals typically have their DNA mixed with that of a specific animal breed. The common feral type is a feline feral. Typically these mutants are stronger and have incresed senses. Their eyes may transform when angry, and this is the biggest sigh that a specific person may be a feral. Shalimar Fox is a feline feral. Click here to read Shalimar's bio.
Molecular: Molecular mutants are specifically in tune the molecular structure of themselves or other objects. In some cases they can define gravity and bend molecular aspects of the world. Some can become impervious, and others can become phased, where they can pass through pysical objects for periods of time. New Mutant Jesse Kilmartin is a molecular mutant. Click here to read Jesse's bio.
Psionic: Psionics are generally known as those individuals that posess incresed mental abilities. These can include telekenisis, precogs, and telepaths. Some psioncs can control and manipulate other's minds at will. The skill of a psionic seems to be related to how much they pratice their abilities and use them in everyday life, such as a muscle. Mutant X member Emma deLauro is a psionic mutant. Click here to read Emma's bio.
That flying machine is cool, what is it called?
The flying device of Mutant X is called the Double Helix. The name has a specific reference to the DNA strand. The Double Helix was created by Adam for the team to travel in. It is equipped with a lot of technology. For more specific information, see the Technology page.
What are those gold rings for?
The comlink rings provide the team with direct communication. It seems that they may have no limit, although specific weather conditions may limit their use at different periods. They also have an individual power cell, but seem to resemble normal rings except for the specific designs that mimic the wearer's DNA pattern. The comlink rings also provide a reference to the wearer's locations using global positioning sattelites. As usual, Adam created them. For more information, look at the Technology page.
Are mutants dangerous?
Well, it depends. Although I don't know if there are specific mutations that are possibly more serious or dangerous than others, it basically comes down to one thing: any one can be dangerous. It is a personal thing that can lead to someone being dangerous, so it is truly unknown. However, these mutations can provide dangerous people with other ways to harm other people. Some mutations can be used as weapons to harm others, but it is not a necessary fact that all mutants will harm others using their abilties.
Where is Sanctuary located?
Sanctuary is located somewhere, presumably somewhere on the east coast, within Stormking mountain. Sanctuary has a lot of security and was specifically designed by Adam to never be able to be located by the human eye, or any electronic device. As with everything, there may be certain weaknesses or specific devices that may lead to something to be found, but it probably depends on the type of technlogy used. For one thing, the GSA was never able to locate Sanctuary.
What are those devices that make the mutants unable to use their powers?
The devices are called Subdermal govenors. They are inserted in the back of the neck through the spine to prevent Mutants from being able to use their powers without having a painful shock. These devices can be turned on and off, and with a remote, can also emit a shock when a button is pushed. Adam origionally created them to control
Gabriel Ashlocke (Patient Zero) who had a combination of all four mutations. The Stasis Pods were also created by Adam to contain him, but the GSA took control of both devices after Adam left.
Whatever happened to Rudy and the Bookstore in the first episode 'The Shock of the New'?
Actually, we don't know what happened to Rudy or his bookstore. It is presumed that Rudy was saved and sent into the underground to receive a new identity. As for his bookstore, it may be there, and it may not. Since the enemy knows about its existance, it really doesn't provide much of a safehouse, but they may use it for a temporary placement if needed.
Are electrical elementals able to take Showers and Baths? Brennan must stink!
Well, from what we've seen and heard, Brennan can take showers or baths, but it weakens his ability. If he were to project electricity while wet, it is conceivable that he would electrocute himself, but there is no mention that it would actually kill him if he took a shower. Since people need a shower or a bath to survive in the world, I'm fairly sure that Brennan won't die but may simply need to wait until he is dry to use his powers. It would just depend on how the writers decide to take it.
Will Emma go crazy from sensing all of those emotions?
Well, some of us feel that the writers may be going in this direction as her powers grow stronger, but right now, probably no. Psionics seem to have an increased mental "shield" to protect themselves from emotions. Emma has been able to turn her ability off or block the emotions she is feeling. Lately it seems that she may be loosing control over this ability when confronted with seriously negative emotions, but no one truly knows for sure. As of yet, however, Emma is not going crazy from sensing the emotions.
Do ferals have tails?
Well, not presently, although it may occur as a later evolutionary development. It would probably depend on how much humanity is left within Shalimar, as well as how much work the special effects department would put into it. I don't need to say this, but if you have poor special effects, the show is usually going down hill.
Does Jesse have to breath to be able to phase or mass?
Yes, he must be able to breathe to phase and mass. It is related to his ability to alter his body density.
Why does Eckhart have his plastic skin?
Due to an accident, Mason Eckhart's immune system was severely damaged. He uses the plastic skin and specific clothes to protect himself from getting a deadly disease or virus. Even a comon cold could kill him, but it is unknown if he has used Adam's blueprint from mutations to restore his immune system.
Why don't the team have their codenames.
Origionally, the four mutant team members had codenames to be called. Unfortunately, FOX, Inc. sued Tribune Entertainment saying that they were stealing the idea for the show from X-Men. Since this has only started to get settled, the codenames were dropped in order to keep from giving FOX anything that could be used against them. It is unknown if the codenames will ever be reintroduced, but we'll just have to see.
So, we'll never see Storm or Cyclops show up to lend a hand?
No, at least not as themselves. There may be a time when they can show up, but we don't really know. Plus, there are mutants with equal or similar abilities, so it could be the writer's way of bringing them into the picture, without actually bringing in Cyclops, Storm, or Wolverine. Just a thought to ponder...
But, wasn't the show created from a comic book?
Well, it is true that there was a comic book called Mutant X, but according to the creaters, it isn't even close. Apparently, the writers decided that they wanted to create a show different from the comics, so they set out to accomplish it.
If Jesse phased people inside a solid wall, when it returned to normal, wouldn't it kill them?
Technically it would kill anyone stuck inside. The molecules would smash the person killing them quickly, but since this is a television show, the writers must have decided that it would be a cool idea to use to trap people inside a wall. Its for special effects, so just turn a blind eye to it. Its all for fun anyway. Besides, who says that it isn't possible. Part of science fiction is making the impossible occur. Just use your imagination!
Who are the actors that play all of the characters?
Adam is played by John Shea. Mason Eckhart is played by Tom McCamus. Emma is played by Lauren Lee Smith, Forbes March plays Jesse, Brennan is played by Victor Webster, and Shalimar is played by Victoria Pratt.
Why should we watch Mutant X every week?
Mutant X is a fantastic sci-fi show that mixes action and adventure with a little romance and drama. It has something for pretty much everyone, and it is interesting to see how the characters manage each other. Besides, the show is going into its third season. In today's world, the good shows go on, and this is one of them. It is best to just give it a try. Even if you don't like it, at least you can tell people that you fairly gave it a shot.
Where is the show taped?
The Show is taped in Toronto, Canada. The main audience that is targeted is for the United States, but there are awesome, loyal fans all over the world.
