Nathan Stout, Captain in the Revolutionary Army, 1776. Justice of the Peace, 1777-1798. Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Hunterdon County, 1800, Member of the New Jersey House of Assembly from Hunterdon County, 1806. Writer of the History of the Stout Family, 1823.
This yard was founded on the farm of David Stout, son of Richard Stout and Penelope Van Princes, and herein lie his body and that of his wife Rebecca Ashton, of their son James and of his wife Catherine Simson, of their son John and of his wife Rachel Merrill, of their son Nathan to whom this monument is erected, and of his wife Esther Ketcham, of their son William and of his wife Eleanor Lane, of their son Nathan and of his wife Mary Ann Fisher, and of their son Simpson.
Erected 1901. In grateful commemoration of the patriotic and public services of our ancestor NATHAN STOUT, Esq. by Zephaniah Stout, Independence, Iowa, a Grandson, and James H. Stout, Menomonie, Wis. and Frank D. Stout, Dubuque, Iowa, Great Grandsons and J. Hervey Stout, Stoutsburg, N.J.
