Whereas Wm Whitaker of Kennett in y^e County of Chester in y^e Province of Pensilvania Yeomn & Eliz Carleton of y^e affor^sd place & having declared their intentions of takeing each other in marriage before severall monthly meetings of y^e people caled Quakers in y^e County of newcastle according to y^e good order used amongst them whose proceeding therein after a deliberate confirmation thereof & consent of parties & parents concern^d they appearing clare of all others were approved by y^e s^d meetings. Now this is to certify all whom it may concern y^t for y^e full accomplishing of their s^d intention this 13^th of y^e 12 Mo in y^e year of our Lord 1722 they y^e s^d Wm Whtaker & Eliz Carlton appeared in a publick & solemn Assembly of y^e affore^sd people & others met together at a publick meeting House in Kennett in y^e affore^sd County & in a solemn manner he y^e s^d Wm Whitaker takeing her y^e s^d Eliz Carleton to be his Wife promising wth God’s assistance to be unto her a faithful & loveing husband until it shall please God by Death to separate us, & then & there in y^e s^d Assembly y^e s^d Eliz Carlton did likewise declare y^t she took him y^e s^d Wm Whitaker to be her husband in like manner promising to be unto him a faithfull & loveing wife until it shall please God by Death to separate us, & for a further confirmation they y^e s^d Wm Whitaker & Eliz Carlton She according to the custom of Marriage assumeing y^e name of her Husband did then & there sett their hands & we whose names are here under written being present amongst others at y^e Solemnization of their s^d Marriage & Subscription in manner affore^sd as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names y^e day & year ffirst above written.
