From Bala take the B4391.Follow this road to Penybontfawr where you will take a turning left to Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, where you will find a left turn to Pistyll waterfall.Take this road till you come to a gate, a stile and a sign showing it is a public right of way(the waterfall is also visable).Across the road from the gate is a space to park a car, or two at a push. The walk is steady when you start. You begin by walking along the mountain side, which is a valley so you are protected from the wind. The path is quite clear with sign posts to the summit in places! At the end of the valley you cross a river where there is a path over the other side. Following the path you come to a lake.Keeping to the left you will start climbing steeper. When it levels out a bit vere more to the left to avoid the nasty drop to the right. You should come to a fence which you follow up the mountain. When you get to the end of the fence there will be a another fence to the right which you follow. You just follow this fence to the summit.Just past the summit there is a nice little stone built shelter. I don't know what the views are like because it was cloudy the day I went up but I bet they are stunning. The walk down wasn't too bad but we (Roger MW0IDX) went down a different way. Instead of going to the ridge to the left we followed the path along the fence all the way down till the path leads away from the fence. From there you get on the road that goes down the hillside, then you must cross the river to the path you were on before. Thiis path will eventually will lead you back to where you parked your car. 73's Joshua MW3EPA |
