Which Route? I drove through Capel Curig heading towards Bangor on the A5. I stopped at Gwern Gof Isaf Farmhouse where a car can be parked for £1 per day. There is a small site at the farmhouse where tents can be pitched, with toilets and running water available on site. Virtually opposite the site is a road (Water Board) leading to the path to Carnedd Llewelyn, which after taking you past Ffynnog Llugwy Reservoir, there is a steep scramble up the path to Craig yr Ysaf which will then lead on to the summit. Alternatively, after starting up the road from the site, a third of the way along you can take a right following a weir which on the third bridge leads up the back of Y Braich, eventually joining on to the same path. Views from the summit on a clear day are spectacular with the Lleyn Peninsular and the North Coast clearing visible. Following on from the summit, South East, a path will take you along a ridge to Carnedd Dafydd. Looking back to the A5 Tryfan stands proudly from the other side of the valley. |
