Drive around the lanes, on a blistering hot day, past two pubs that were closed (at lunchtime !) to arrive at SN979764. Another easy walk to the top. 20 mins max. No need for map, just walk up the track. As I approached the summit I was concerned that I may not be able to get to the top. The lower fields were Rye Grass for silage, and it looked like this all the way to the top. I didn't want to trample it down, but as I approached the top it was through another gate into sheep pasture. But this is cultivated sheep pasture – a few thistles, but this grass has been planted – it isn't natural. We must assume that at sometime there will be crops in this field. If that's the case, then it looks like a walk along a field fence to set up to the north of the dense conifer wood. On the top for almost 2 hrs, with no shade or shelter. Fortunately a light breeze kept the rig (and me) cool. 73's de Mike G (W) 0WZY |
