Started at Haine's Mill on the A44 (Landranger 148 : SO203604), The route goes through a farm gate (Waymarked) and up a metalled track for about 750m to a gate with a Danger Area notice. At this point the route is waymarked half left to go through a gate and over a wooden footbridge. From here a good grassy track climbs steadily , passing the edge of a small conifer plantation to reach a small dis-used quarry at 187621. Here the track continues on approx 298 degrees, but head half right on 334 up a grassy path, passing several Danger signs. This path gradually becomes narrower and soon heads north. When you reach what looks like a cylindrical iron tank, half-buried in the end of a watercourse, continue along the path, still very gently gaining height. In about 500m, turn left along a narrow path, eventually reaching a wire fence, from where the trig point should be visible. The final approach is along what could be a very wet path through heather and tussocky grass. Is helpful to keep a bearing on the radio mast on Black Mixen. In mist, a GPS or extremely good navigational skills would be essential to find the trig point. Seasons Greeting to all 73s, Dave, M0DFA |
