First the important info: There is a car park with toilets at GR SH85851595, and the Merion Mill at 859139 is open for drinks and snacks 10:30 - 16:30 (local). After Easter it may be open longer.

Having consulted 'Hermon', we took the path through the forest from the lay-by at 856150. This path is way and fairly clear to follow, but is steep in places with some large steps - difficult for short legs.

Once out of the forest, it contours round across a steep grassy hillside. A little indistinct at times, with a few damp places, but good views of Maesglase and our descent route. Eventually the path crossed a narrow ridge and headed off up towards Maesglase, where the path up from the valley joins it.

In future I'd use this one, leaving the A470 at 848154 and walking along a narrow road before taking to a path at 841152. The path up from the ridge keeps close to the edge all the way and in places is very indistinct, but re-appears from time to time There are a couple of small streams to cross, but no really boggy bits. The summit is marked by a very meagre pile of stones, to which, following tradition, we added a few.
