Approach from A498.  At Prenteg take the single-track road signposted Cwmstraddlyn passing the cattle grid sign and taking the next fork to the right (downhill!).

This tarmac road then turns to concrete and takes you up to Mynydd Gorllwyn passing through two gates. After the second gate and just before the road turns to a gravel track, there is room to turn and park near a gate on the right.  Proceed on foot along the track (ignore footpath sign on left) and then fork left.

Upon reaching the sharp right-hand bend bear left (so Moel Ddu still faces you) and over the small rocky mound and past the small lonesome Hawthorn tree. Drop down across a low mossy area and down again to a stream with hut circles. A path is now just visible that takes you to a gate. Turn left up the grassy hill keeping the stream on your right. A black faced pyramid shaped stone guides the way. Carry on up and cross the stream where it passes through the stone wall. Follow the wall up to the top and turn left.

From here any suitable route can be taken to the summit. Heading for the col between Ffridd Bach and Moel Ddu is probably the easiest. There are two summits with small cairns separated by a stone wall. The higher summit requires a scramble over the wall. You are rewarded with superb views of some of Snowdonias finest summits and views over Tremadog Bay.
