We took the approach up Moel Ysfarnigod from the Harlech side. We drove to Glan-y-wern on the main A496 (Harlech to Porthmadog road) just south of Harlech. From there we followed a little lane going up hill off the main road with a Hotel sign at the turn off.

We followed the lane till we could see the Hotel and immediately before it we turned right, the road was still taking us uphill. We followed that lane through a gate and on until the tarmac ended and intead was a grassy verge to park two or three cars.

From there we took a path to the right and over a stream and was on the Miners path which we followed all the way to the end before scramblig over the rocks and over rough grass slopes to the summit. The path was gradual, at the beginnig it was grassy changing later to rocks and for us in March was quite boggy and muddy.

The views were spectacular, you could see all the way down the Llyn Perninsula and Bardsey Island, with tremendous views of Tremadog Bay, Porthmadog and even the steamtrain and the cob were clear.

We passed by the ruins of the old Manganese mines which we thought to be interesting, we also passed through the middle of two lakes and also passed another small lake.We saw lots of sheep and a couple of mountain goats along the way.

At the summit we had tremendous views over the village of Trawfynedd and the large Trawsfynydd lake. Up at the top was a trigpoint and a cairn to get a little shelter from the wind.

The trigpoint had a hole running down its centre but at the time we visited there were rocks down it, otherwise it would be ideal for a pole.It was a pretty large summit with plenty of room to guy down an antenna, small tent etc. We used a portable hand made yagi antenna and got five contacts in a short space of time,  including a station from Ireland and all were very clear.
