Pillows Dressed For Fall
Small changes to one basic pattern give you two distinct looks for decorating.
Size: 14" square
Materials: Pillow A: (left side in photo) 6 oz brown, 7 oz rust
Pillow B: 6 oz Cognac, 7 oz fisherman
14" square pillow form
Crochet hook size G
Gauge: 3 pattern repeats=3-1/2"; 10 rows = 3 inches
Pattern Notes
Carry color not in use loosely up side of work. Change colors while working sc as follows: Insert hook
in st, yo, draw lp through, yo with new color, draw through both lps on hook.
Shell: (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in given sp or ch.
PILLOW A (make 2 sides)
With brown, ch 68.
Row 1: Shell in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 4 ch, shell in next ch, rep from * across to last 3 ch,
sk 2 ch, sc in last ch changing to rust, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in sc, working behind shells of previous row (hold shells to front of work) *ch 5, sc in ch-4
lp in foundation ch. Rep from * across, end ch 5, sc in top of turning ch, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in sc, working under ch-5 lp at front of work and into ch-1 sp of shell, work shell, * ch 2,
shell in next shell. Rep from * across. Change colors while working sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in sc, working behind previous row, *ch 5, with thumb preess ch-2 lp of same
color 3 rows below through to back, sc in lp. Rep from * across, end sc in sc.
Rows 5-54: Rep rows 3 and 4 changing colors at the end of each row 3.
Fasten off first side. At end of side 2, fasten off brown and continue with rust for edging.
EDGING
Hold wrong sides together and work through both sides. For top edging: ch 1, turn, (sc, 5 dc, sc)
in corner, *working under ch-5 lp of both front and back, work 5 dc in next shell, sc in next sc.
Rep from * to corner, (sc, 5 dc, sc) in corner. Working down side edge, **sk 1 sc, 5 dc in
next sc, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc. Rep from ** to corner, (sc, 5 dc, sc) in corner. Continue across
bottom with 5 dc in foundation ch at base of shell and 1 sc around ch-4 lp on foundation ch.
Insert pillow form and continue as first side. End with sl st in first sc.
PILLOW B
With cognac, ch 68.
Row 1: With cognac, ch 68, shell in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 4 ch, shell in next ch.
Rep from * across to last 3 ch, sk 2 ch, sc in last ch changing to Fisherman. Ch 1, turn
Row 2: Sc in sc, ch 5, hold shells to back of work, *sc in next ch-4 sp on foundation ch,
ch 5. Rep from * across. Sc in top of turning ch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in sc, *shell in ch-1 sp of shell and under ch-5 lp (which is at back of work),
ch 2. Rep from * across. End shell in shell, change colors while working sc in last sc.
Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in sc, hold shell in back of work, *ch 5, push lp of same color 3 rows below to front,
sc around lp. Rep from * across, end ch 5, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 5-54: Repeat rows 3 and 4, changing colors at the end of each row 3.
Fasten off first side. At end of side 2, fasten off cognac and continue with fisherman for edging.
Complete edging as given for pillow A.
