Angel Luis García Ramos

Pit, Ange, Smurf, better known as Angelo, was born in the city of Brooklyn, New York on march 28, 1977. His parents Carmen Julia Ramos, a well-known soprano and Angel García, who was in then military that participated in the Vietnam war, both from Puerto Rico.

His childhood was normal and in school his favorite subject was English and he hated Math. He also cut class and preferred the beaches. For example, in New York, Jones Beach was the “get together” place and it was Daytona Beach in Orlando, Florida. At recess, he enjoyed playing “kickball” which is like baseball, but kicked with a big, soft ball. When he was in 5^th grde, he fellin love with Miss Menuelie, a blue-eyed Italian teacher with long, black hair. Regarding love, he was always jumpy about it and almost had a different girlfriend each year.

“Once I had a girlfriend and we used to kiss but from a distance, and once a girl arrived who pushed us together and we gave each other a real kiss and all our classmates made fun of us”… Angelo 1989.

He used to love to pay with toy soldiers because he’d drown them in the water. He used to cut his sister’s doll’s hair and cars were boring to him. He preferred airplanes and trains.

“At night I sleep like a little snowball, I love doing mischief and making fun of my sister because she sucks her thumb”… Angelo 1989.

His eternal devotion, besides God and his family have been animals: giraffes, elephants, dogs, cats, lions, all of them. At some time he dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, although he also dreamed of being an archeologist, lawyer , actor, singer.

“Once I had a parrot and I stepped on it. I put it in the closet so it could get better and when I noticed, my God, I was stepping on it again! I started to cry and my father scolded me. Afterwards, my dog ate it. I hope everyone takes care of their animals, and never step on them and don’t let their little sister pet them too much or harm them and if they have macho Chihuahua puppies, I hope they’ll give them to me”… Angelo 1989.

He believes in his dreams and that when someone has a dream or goal, they should keep it close to their heart and with care and dedication they can be achieved.

“I believe that we all have weird dreams… I would also like to be an eagle and fly, or a fish and get to know everything that exist in the deepness of the ocean” Angelo 1994.

He loves to lisen to music from Nirvana and Pearl Jam, he likes Rock but he’d never interpret this type of music because he considers that he doesn’t have the right voice. Madonna, George Michael, Yolandita Monje are some of the artist he admires since his childhood.

The time that he’s away from home he sometimes looks at the sky and passes hours staring at the moon and stars which fill him with curiosity… when he misses home he looks at the moon.

“You know, it’s like a pact between my mom and I. It’s the only thing we can look at, at the same time, her at home and me when I’m on the road… it connects us and give us energy”… Angelo 1994.

He got his caracteristic scar, near his eye when he was barely 3 years old, while he was running thought his house. He ran into the corner of a nightstand and almost lost the eye. This scar is what caused his buddies from Menudo to lovingly call him “Scarface”.

Among his thousands of activities, he also gets informed and documented. AIDS and other bellicose topics are what worry him the most.

“When I have the opportunity to express my opinion, I do it in an open way, especially when us young ones are going thought a stage full of risk and dangers, things like drugs and AIDS”… Angelo 1994.
