MENUDO
“Menudo a fabulous fivesome of Puerto-rican boys, now have that charming new boy named Angelo García, who is barely 11 years old and who really left me impressed when I saw him in his debut at El Premier and then in the program “Estrellas de los 90’s” where he, himself sang in English accompanied by a pianist. Lots of girls were left heartbroken with Ralph’s leave, but at the end they have understood that that’s the way it has to be. On the other hand, they can enjoy the presence of Angelo, who I’m sure will leave a big effect in the hearts of thousands of fans of Menudo”… Notitas Musicales 1988.
Exactly! Angelo had potential in his voice, inherited by his mother who
supported him so he could join and be part of what was Menudo. He auditioned
like three times and was chosen among lots of boys. He sang 5 songs from Menudo
and one of Madonna’s and after a few days, the telephone rang… Angelo was
already Menudo.
When it come to singing there was no problem, but when
it come to dancing he had two left feet. His sister and Joselo Vega helped him
to become better in that aspect.
“when he started, Angelo had a zero in choreography, it was a lot of work but the important thing is that he wanted to do it right and he made it”… Joselo Vega 1989.
He was with Menudo for 2 and a half years approximately and participated
in 3 records. “You’ve got potential”, “To leave one more”, “En mis sueños”,
“Escapando de ti”, “Giro” and “No volverá a ocurrir” were the songs he
interpreted and recorded for Menudo.
With hard work he won the heart of fans, he was such a heartbreaker that
a little girl was inspired by him to write a song titled simply “Angelo”.
“It’s a nice experience that I’ve never had and it feels nice to have a song dedicated especially for oneself. Toty is too little to be my girlfriend, when she’s 20 she’s going to be beautiful and then I’ii be 24. “ Angelo 1989.
With Menudo he learned to unfold himself as an artist, how to behave in
interviews, with the fans, and with his fellow artist he lived unimaginable
moments, filling him with memories and experiences.
At the beginning of 1990 when they were taping a TV series titled “Los
Ultimos Héroes”, Angelo and Robert fell ill because of an asthma attack and
even though Angelo overcame the crisis, he returned to the hospital a few days
after now because he had to be operated for appendicitis.
Everything happened in a relatively short period of time, it was the
sickness, a carelessness of Edgardo Díaz, the proposal of McGillis, owner of
The World Wide Entretainment Company, to make him a soloist… Angelo and his
parents decided to leaveMenudo behind and plan big time.
